Pioneering science-based Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy research in Brazil

Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) has emerged in rigorous scientific studies as a safe and effective approach for treating a variety of mental health disorders, positioning itself as one of the most promising fields in modern psychiatry.

The Phaneros Institute is dedicated to advancing the evaluation, research, and development of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) in Brazil. Acknowledging that traditional medical education has largely omitted accurate and relevant information on psychedelic substances, the Institute aims to educate and expand the perspective of medical and therapeutic professionals on the role of these substances in mental health care.

Founded in 2011, the Phaneros Institute has pioneered psychedelic research for over a decade. In 2020, it launched the first online course, an evidence-based update for health professionals. By 2022, Phaneros introduced the inaugural Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Training Program (FoPAP), designed to equip professionals for participation in scientific research and to develop new clinical protocols. The two-year FoPAP program is unique in Brazil and internationally, providing trainees with supervised clinical internships where they work with volunteers in Phaneros’ research protocols.

Visual approach

The concept behind the name Phaneros draws from a botanical classification established by Lieu, in which plants are divided into two primary groups: phanerogams, with visible reproductive organs, and cryptogams, with reproductive organs that are not easily discernible. This distinction gives rise to the terms "apparent/visible" and "hidden/concealed."

In its field of work, the name Phaneros embodies the idea of revealing knowledge that has been part of ancestral cultures for millennia and is gradually being rediscovered and studied by modern science.

In this sense, Greek letters—rich with symbolism, history, and an inherent connection to rationality and science—play a fundamental role in shaping the Phaneros brand.

Symbol concept

Omega
Omega
While Omicron, which serves as the basis for the construction of the letter Phi, represents the "small O" in the Greek alphabet ("ō + mikron"), Omega represents the "large O" ("ō + mega") when translated literally. This distinction is similar to that observed between the terms cryptogams and phanerogams. Omega symbolizes something vast or the culmination of a significant development phase, where this development could apply to the universe, a planet, a nation, or even an individual. In spiritual contexts, Omega signifies spiritual evolution and enlightenment, representing the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one, symbolizing a time of destruction, transformation, and rebirth.
Exponentiality
Exponentiality
The three spheres growing from a single point can be seen as a representation of the human being in their current state of consciousness and in a state of expanded consciousness. Here, previously blocked potentials are finally unlocked, allowing the individual to regain control over their thoughts and actions. The presence of three spheres opens the door to multiple interpretations, such as the Holy Trinity, the Physical-Mental-Spiritual bodies, the dynamic between Individual-Collective-Society, and the relationship among Patient-Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy-Therapist.

Awakening and Expansion
The symbol signifies growth, evolution, and the awakening of human potentials that were once dormant.
